Jinya Ramen Bar

Brand Identity

Role: Creative Direction and Design

Los Angeles is home to many delicious ramen shops. Jinya Ramen Bar was in need of an identity redesign to reflect their ramen's bold fllavors and stand out from the competition.

Similar to a castle, a "jinya" is the administrative and residential headquarters of the Japanese government back in the Feudal era. My final logo was inspired by Japan's strict adherence to a rectangular grid system found in traditional architecture. The Japanese word "jinya" is redrawn to reflect that grid. The new identity stands apart from the mostly calligraphic logos of its competitors and marks a bold presence in the LA ramen scene.

Under the new brand, Jinya has grown from their first 2 locations in LA to close to 50 locations across US and Canada.
